What is HepCure?
HepCure is a public health campaign developed by the Addiction Practitioners Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (dapaanz) for the sole purpose of promoting the screening and successful treatment of hepatitis C infections involving historic exposure that remain either untreated or undiagnosed.
In Aotearoa New Zealand it is estimated that up to 50,000 people are infected with chronic hepatitis C and as many as half that number remain unaware they have the virus.
Massive advances in science has seen the development of a new generation of highly effective medicines that cure close to one hundred percent of those infected with hepatitis C, regardless of genotype. These medicines are free and available without restriction from community health care providers and DHB hospitals nationwide.
For those infected with hep C, the news has never been better, but free and effective medicines mean nothing if those infected fail to seek treatment. It might be the slightest of memories or you might not remember at all but if there are any question marks whatsoever around injecting drugs (even once) tattoos or piercings with non sterile equipment, pre 92 blood transfusions in New Zealand, or medical care in third world countries - GET THE TEST!
HepCure is not an organisation, there is no office and no staff members waiting to answer a phone line that doesn't exist. Any follow up resulting from information in this campaign should be with your local GP or health care professional. Other places that offer testing can be found here - https://www.health.govt.nz/our...
